Privacy policy

Last updated: 2 July 2026

This policy explains what personal data Tasko collects, why we collect it, and your rights under Nigerian data-protection law. It applies to tasko.ng, app.tasko.ng, pro.tasko.ng, and our mobile apps.

1. Who we are

Tasko Nigeria ("Tasko", "we", "us", "our") operates the Tasko marketplace at tasko.ng and related services at app.tasko.ng (clients) and pro.tasko.ng (specialists). We connect people who need home and local services with independent specialists and facilitate payments through Tasko Pay. For data-protection purposes, Tasko Nigeria is the data controller for personal information described in this policy.

2. Legal framework

This policy is prepared in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019 (NDPR) issued by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and guidance from the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). It also respects fundamental rights under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), including the right to privacy. Where consumer matters arise, we align with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 (FCCPA) and FCCPC guidance on fair dealing and transparency.

3. Information we collect

Account data: phone number, name, profile photo, and preferences. Job data: service category, description, photos, voice notes, location, and scheduling. Communication data: in-app chat and support messages. Payment data: transaction references, amounts, escrow status, and payout records — card and bank details are processed by licensed payment partners, not stored in full by Tasko. Optional trust data: specialists may choose to complete identity checks (such as NIN and selfie verification) to earn a trust badge; this is voluntary and used to help clients make informed choices. Technical data: device type, IP address, app version, and diagnostic logs.

4. How we use your information

We use personal data to provide and improve Tasko, match jobs with specialists, process Tasko Pay transactions, offer customer support, prevent fraud, comply with applicable law, and send service-related notices. We do not sell your personal data. Marketing messages are sent only where permitted by law and your preferences.

5. Legal bases for processing

Under the NDPA/NDPR we rely on: (a) performance of a contract — to deliver the service you request; (b) legitimate interests — fraud prevention, security, and service improvement, balanced against your rights; (c) legal obligation — tax, regulatory, and court orders; and (d) consent — where required, for example optional marketing or optional verification features.

6. Sharing and processors

We share information only as needed: with specialists or clients involved in a job, with payment processors (e.g. Paystack), cloud infrastructure providers (e.g. AWS), authentication providers, and professional advisers under confidentiality duties. All processors are bound by contracts requiring appropriate security and lawful processing. We may disclose information if required by Nigerian law, court order, or a competent authority.

7. International transfers

Some service providers may process data outside Nigeria. Where this occurs, we implement safeguards recognised under the NDPA/NDPR, such as standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions, to protect your information.

8. Retention

We retain personal data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for disputes, fraud prevention, accounting, and legal compliance. Transaction records may be kept longer where required by tax or financial regulations.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email help@tasko.ng. You may withdraw consent at any time where processing is consent-based. You may lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission at ndpc.gov.ng if you believe your rights have been infringed.

10. Security

We use encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and organisational measures appropriate to a payments-adjacent platform. No system is completely secure; please report suspected incidents promptly to help@tasko.ng.

11. Children

Tasko is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a minor has provided data, contact us for deletion.

12. Changes

We may update this policy to reflect legal or product changes. The "Last updated" date will change and, where required, we will provide additional notice. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

13. Contact
